People Helping People was absolutely delighted to be this year's charity recipient of the annual Silver Tea hosted by St. James Episcopal Church members. Now in the 56th year, this is a community-wide holiday celebration. Everyone gets out their silver polish and best cookie recipes for this fabulous event. The tables are covered with fine linens, gleaming silver trays and tea sets and this year, more than 200 dozen delicious handmade cookies were donated -- a feast appreciated by all!
We are so grateful for your support! All donations will pay for prescriptions for those needing help buying their medicines. Please join us Thursday, Sept 9th at Gotahold Brewing as singer/songwriter Captain Sparky, aka Gerry Fonseca, entertains us with a wide medley of genres; folk, folk rock, blues and Americana. Special guest Leroy Gorrell on harmonica. Tips from the evening benefit People Helping People as part of Gotahold’s amazing “Thursday Tips for Transformation” program. Thank you, Wendy and Dave! Gotahold Brewing is located at 409 W. Van Buren (Highway 62) tucked back a bit from the road. There’s an acre and a half of outdoor table seating in their spacious beer garden. Due to rising Delta variant COVID infections in our area, masks are required inside the building. They have a large assortment of tasty artisan brews on tap as well as a few still and sparkling wines and hard ciders. They do not have a food truck but serve cheese trays and snacks. There are several great takeout places nearby or you can bring your own food.
It sure did, it was a gully-washer, but that didn’t stop the SOLD-OUT Sad Daddy concert at Gotahold Brewing to benefit People Helping People. A happy throng moved indoors to enjoy the evening of uniquely wonderful “swampy jug” music.
Sad Daddy is Brian Martin on guitar, Melissa Carper on bass, Joe Sundell on banjo, and Rebecca Patek on fiddle. Thank you, Sad Daddy and the wonderful staff at Gotahold! The event highlight will be members of the People Helping People Board modeling one-of-a-kind art masks that Mark created. The artmasks will be auctioned to benefit People Helping People’s prescription medication program. In addition, masks from his collection will be available for purchase with a portion of those proceeds benefitting this program which serves Carroll Countians in need.
Early on in the Covid 19 pandemic, Mark created 3500 kits for 25 local volunteers to make masks to serve the needs of our community. In six weeks, the masks were made and distributed by Mark and his partner Steve Beacham. From May 2020 to May 2021, Mark made an additional 6000 masks. He stopped making masks and packed up the supplies this past May. And in July, he found the need to unpack and start making masks once again as the delta variant created the current surge in Covid cases. Join us for what no doubt will inspire laughter as well as provide an opportunity to purchase your new fall fashion mask! Wow, are we lucky! Wendy and Dave Hartmann, the fabulous owners of Gotahold Brewing, have once again chosen People Helping People as the beneficiaries of their Thursday night “tips for charity” in the month of September. All of the Thursday Tips for Transformation events start at 5 pm. There’s a wonderful lineup in store: Sept 2nd — Mask Parade and Auction featuring masks by highly-acclaimed local artist Mark Hughes. Mark’s marvelous handmade face masks will be auctioned off. Mark himself will emcee and People Helping People volunteers will model these incredible works. A feast for the eyes and a great way to stay safe! Sept 4th — A special Saturday show featuring Melissa Carper and Sad Daddy. Due to seating limitations, this event is SOLD OUT! If you already have tickets, count yourselves among the very fortunate to enjoy this rare treat. All proceeds except cost of 1st drink benefit People Helping People. Sept 9th — Captain Sparky entertains with a variety of genres. Sept 16th — Highway 23 North rocks out. Sept 23 — The Hauf Brothers perform. Sept 30th — Tiny Dinosaurs will grace the stage for People Helping People’s 30th birthday party. We will have cupcakes and a special birthday celebration! Gotahold Brewing is located at 409 W. Wow, we've just received the wonderful news that the Ducommun Foundation has generously gifted People Helping People with a $5000 check! The Ducommun Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Ducommun Incorporated that addresses community-based and humanitarian needs. Ducommun in Berryville submitted People Helping People for assistance at the local level.
It couldn't have come at a better time. Without the access to on-site fundraisers that have always been our mainstay, prescription need has outstripped donations this year. Fortunately we had enough carry-over from last year to offset the gap initially, but that gap was widening as the pandemic wears on. The Ducommun Foundation check is a huge boost! "In a time of unprecedented need, we stand by all those impacted by this pandemic," said Stephen G. Oswald, chairman, president & chief executive officer. "Ducommun wants to help our neighbors who are struggling, lift up individuals and families, and make a significant difference in our local communities."
We are ready to help. 870-423-5145.
